Look at it as a case study, this site is set so that you can open your mind that what we view as entertainment, especially American Idol. is really a money-generating scheme. Here are just some of the income that the "Idol" or "Idle" show rakes in:

1. RATINGS- the more audience follows and watches the show means that the show has growing value over time.  This can be compared to the price of a stock or a commodity.

2. ADVERSTISING- major companies pay more in air time advertising in between the segments of the show, helping the network earn more and pushing the price of the licenses and rights to air the show.

3. TEXT MESSAGING- yup, the votes that people cast are really a milking cow, imagine if Millions would vote for their performers each time the show goes live, try to calculate the total votes, that in itself is a whopper!

4. BRAND EQUITY- the more artists come out of American idol, like David Cook, David Archuleta (who just starred in a local show here in the Philippines), the more the Brand becomes highly valuable and gets more expensive.

5. CONCERT TICKETS/ROYALTIES- the stars of the show often go on tour and get to visit different parts of the world, because they are a result of the American Idol brand then promoters would have to pay owners of the Brand royalties in tickets etc.

It is a perfect blend of many earning sources of cash that enable American idol to pay the salaries of the 3 judges, which I think are expensive in and of themselves (they definitely are not doing it for free).  American Idol is therefore a business case that is worth copying and emulating.
