It was truly a grand and massive launch that was held Thursday night at NBC Tent in The Fort for PLDT SME Nation’s Bossing Ako campaign that aims “to ignite Pinoy ingenuity for business and to encourage more Filipinos to become their own boss by turning entrepreneurs. The campaign also seeks to inspire Filipino small-to-medium scale entrepreneurs to continue striving for success and courageously meet the challenges of growing their own business.”Ms. Kat Luna-Abelarde, PLDT SME Nation Vice President, said “We are on a nationwide campaign to encourage a new generation of Filipino entrepreneurs. The Philippines needs more entrepreneurs in order to ensure our economic future. As we move forward into the 21st century, we’ll need more SME’s to provide more jobs, more income and more purchasing power.”
Previous to the grand and well-attended launch (many came despite the inclement weather to enjoy the music dished out by the featured band and of course, Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda and OPM rock music icon Rico Blanco who sang “Para Sa Mga Bossing,” the anthem of the Bossing Ako campaign), the song was launched to kick off the nationwide “Bossing Ako” campaign.
These SME icons dubbed as “Pinoy Bossings” include Mother Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle M. Teo (they got the loudest cheers when they went onstage) of Regal Entertainment for starting from SME to become a pillar of the local film industry. The mother-daughter team is behind the 50-year-old film outfit which has churned out notable films starring the biggest stars in the local entertainment industry.
Another SME icon is another mother-daughter tandem, that of Dr. Vicki Belo and Cristalle Henares who are behind Belo Medical Group and the now popular whitening product line Belo Essentials. The jetsetting celebrity doctor, however, wasn’t able to attend as she is in the US for a business trip.
The other SME icons are Jay Aldeguer of Island Souvenirs for promoting his passion and love for the country through his tourism souvenirs business; Joey Concepcion, entrepreneurship advocate and founding trustee of Go Negosyo; and PLDT Chair Manny V. Pangilinan as the “Ultimate Bossing.”
Also representing the “Bossing Ako” movement are Les Reyes of Reyes HairCutters, Gardy Cruz of Pancit Malabon Express; Raphael and Jenni Soon of North Park; Ronald Pineda of Folded & Hung; Benjamin Liuson of The Generics Pharmacy; Darius and Carlos Hizon of Pampanga’s Best; and Louie Gutierrez and Dulzzi Gutierrez of Silverworks.
In October, the “MVP Bossing Ako Awards Night,” named in honor of PLDT Chair Manny V. Pangilinan, will be held in partnership with Go Negosyo.
